Divorce Rates Increasing In Asia

Divorce rates increasing in Asia. Countries such as China, Singapore have seen divorce statistics increase.
The number of people who divorced in China shot up in 2010 and 2011. Singapore has seen a increase of 3.6% in divorces from 2010.

China has seen a total of 1.96 million couples applied for divorce last year, a 14.5 percent increase from 2009, according to figures published on the website of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

China’s divorce rate has risen gradually at an average of 7.65 percent a year since 2003 when the law regulating marriage was amended. It use to be that in many areas of China, couples who wanted to divorce had to get a written certificate from their workplaces or neighborhood committees.

Some causes of divorce in Asia is blamed on rising wealth and independence and, laws that make it easier for divorce.

About 2.87 million Chinese couples broke up in 2011, a 7.3 percent increase from the year before, 2010 seen 1.96 million divorces in China, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
